Alternatives to Gas Powered Vehicles
Today, there is an abundance of alternatives to gas powered vehicles. Years ago the streets were filled with large, luxury cars. They were almost a status symbol. That is until the energy crunch hit. Gas prices were higher that they have ever been; at least in this country. Finally, when the unstoppable cries from the wallets were so loud that they began to pierce the eardrums, some people started searching for a more energy efficient mode of transportation. It wasn't easy. Those big, beautiful gas guzzling cars were hard to part with.
As always in this society, there is never only one version to choose from. First, there is the hybrid car; a car that uses both fuel and battery power. Then there is a plug-in hybrid; an all electric car that, as the name suggests, has to be plugged in to an electrical outlet. How about a car that runs solely on ethanol; a fuel that is produced from a certain variety of corn? Ever hear of a car that uses compressed natural gas; natural gas that has been compressed under high pressure? And last but not least, the battery electric car that uses chemical energy that is stored in rechargeable battery packs.
One way to lower our motor vehicle fuel cost is to simply drive less. A little organization and planning could probably eliminate a lot of the unnecessary trips to the grocery store. This might just be the best idea. But, if are in the market for a different type of vehicle, one of the above might just be the one you are looking for.
